Spirit Lake man dies in three-vehicle collision

A Wednesday collision in Redwood County claimed the life of a Spirit Lake man.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2024 Chevrolet Cruze operated by John Michael McWhorter, 41, of Spirit Lake was eastbound on Minnesota 19 and a 2004 Peterbilt semi tractor operated by James Randall Adkins, 42, of Brush, Colo., was westbound when they collided. The Cruze then collided with an eastbound 2002 Chevrolet Suburban operated by Logan Jay Schreifels, 22, of Vesta. The crash was reported at 12:58 p.m. Wednesday from the state highway’s intersection with Harvest Avenue.

McWhorter was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported to the other two drivers. The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Belview First Responders & Fire, the Redwood Falls Fire Department and Centra Care Medical assisted at the scene.
