Spath to appear in district court on Tuesday

A man apprehended last week by the Nobles County Sheriff’s Officer after being sought since the previous weekend will appear Tuesday in Nobles County District Court on three felony charges.


Michael Layne Spath, 41, who is listed as homeless, faces felony charges of possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of a controlled substance and fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.


According to the criminal complaint, Spath led police in a chase during the evening of Aug, 6 that reached 120 mph. Both Spath and his passenger eventually proceeded to flee on foot after their vehicle crashed into a wooded area after about nine minutes of pursuit.


Spath has a previous conviction of felony meth possession in Minnehaha County, South Dakota. He is scheduled to be in Nobles County District Court at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.
