Trojan boys soccer defeated 3-1 in home opener

The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team was defeated in its home opener Thursday night as it lost to Tri-City United, 3-1.
The Trojans were scoreless until the latter stages of the second half, when freshman Eiby Martinez scored to draw Worthington to within two of the lead. WHS got no closer, though, as it fell to 1-2 on the season.
There's no rest for the Trojans, as they'll play their fourth game in seven days tonight when they host Southwest Minnesota Christian at 7 p.m. Catch the action on 104.3 La Voz.

In girls soccer, the Trojans played at Tri-City United and were blanked 6-0. The next action for WHS, now 0-3, will be Tuesday, when it plays at Marshall.

In area high school football Thursday night, Adrian-Ellsworth competed in its first-ever 9-man football game against Hills-Beaver Creek, which advanced to the state title game last season. It was the host Patriots taking care of the Dragons, 49-6.
Also in 9-man football Thursday, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda got its season started with a W as it rolled past Mountain Lake Area, 54-20.
In Class 2A football, Jackson County Central, the defending state champion, won big on the road 61-25 at Maple River. Tate Phillips ran for three touchdowns — one of them went for 94 yards.
