The King Turkey Day Board of Directors announced this year’s Parade Marshals and Honorary Turkey during the KTD annual mixer event Thursday at the 10th Street Pavilion.
Announced as parade marshals were Phil and Rita Smith of Smith Trucking in Worthington. KTD President Holly Sieve remarked that they have been in the trucking business for 77 years and in Worthington for 23 years, with the business continuing to grow. The Smiths have been a consistent supporter of King Turkey Day and in the parade. Additional community support includes driving the Spirit of Worthington Trojan Marching Band equipment all over the U.S. for multiple events, including last year’s trip to Turkeyfest in Cuero, Texas. The Smiths’ church and church family are also important to them, as they continue to offer rides to anyone who needs them.
This year’s Honorary Turkey, meanwhile, is Mike Woll. Woll returned to his hometown of Worthington several years ago and has served in many visible government and civic organizations. On King Turkey Day, he can be found at every ending of the grand parade with his gang of guys picking up recyclable trash. He owns Mike Woll Investment Office in Worthington, and Sieve also noted that he and his wife have “no fear of past individuals who have left us” because they moved into a previously used funeral home, where Mike and wife Darcy live today.
