Semi hits deer, which then strikes other vehicle; one hurt

One person was injured Friday in a crash that saw a semi strike a deer, which was subsequently directed into another vehicle.


A semi was traveling southbound on U.S. 71 in Jackson County's Christiania Township near the intersection with 505th Street when it struck a deer. The deer then struck a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder operated by James Rayburn Breland, 63, of Jackson. The crash was reported at 6:57 a.m. Friday.


Breland was transported to Windom Area Health with non-life-threatening injuries. The Cottonwood County and Jackson County sheriff's offices, along with the Windom Police Department and Ambulance, assisted at the scene.
