The Worthington Trojans' softball team kept things close for a while in their Section 2AA first-round game Tuesday at Pipestone Area, but the Arrows put up eight runs in the bottom of the fourth and wound up with an 11-1, five-inning triumph.
WHS got singles from Emma Hietbrink and Victoria Bush in the second inning as well as base hits from Macie Mahlberg and Breeta Johnson in the third but could not score in either frame.
Then, down 2-0 in the fourth, the Trojans got a leadoff double from Bush, and she later came around to score on a Jasmine Noerenberg groundout. Pipestone Area, however, quickly answered with its big inning.
With their loss, the Trojans end their season at 0-21.
Jackson County Central, which had a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed, won its game against Redwood Valley 8-0 on Tuesday and advanced to Saturday's south subsection final.

Teams needed to win their first game to remain alive in the elimination bracket following a second-game loss. Wabasso dropped Lakeview into the elimination bracket by routing the Lakers 11-0.

Both WHS golf teams will now be idle until next Tuesday, when sectionals begin at Jordan.

Windom snapped a 1-1 tie when a fifth-inning bases-loaded single ended up scoring three runs, and the Eagles beat host Worthington 7-1 in the Trojans' final home baseball game of the season.
Worthington went ahead 1-0 in the second when Ethan Anderson singled and eventually came around to score on a Dom Larson double. Windom, however, tied it in the third and then got three in the fifth. The Eagles' Stevie Meyer slugged a solo homer in the sixth, and Windom tacked on two more runs in the seventh.
Logan Kerkaert, who pitched a complete game, and Brayden Raymo also had singles for the Trojans, who play at Fairmont on Thursday and at Luverne on Friday.
