Search for Garvin man still on after weekend incidents

A man still being sought by law enforcement after evading Brown County Sheriff's deputies last week appears to have been involved in multiple incidents of theft this past weekend in Jackson County.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff Office, at 8:13 a.m. Saturday, a Jackson County deputy responded to a 911 call reporting that a 2023 Ford F-150 had just been stolen from a rural address near Alpha. The caller reported watching a white male walk around their yard who kept pulling a hood over his head in an obvious attempt to hide his face.  He then stole their F-150 and travelled south on Jackson County 29 from Alpha heading toward the Iowa state line. The homeowner later discovered other property had been stolen from outbuildings as well.

A 2013 GMC Sierra pickup was left behind in their yard by the male. After investigating, the deputy learned that this pickup had been stolen and involved in last week's incident, which began in Blue Earth County. The pickup, however, had license plates on it that had been stolen from the Canby area in Yellow Medicine County.

Sean Eric Vanmeveren, 25, of Garvin is the suspected driver during last week's pursuit, and it's also believed he was involved in the theft of the pickup involved in that incident.

While the Jackson County deputy was investigating the theft of the 2023 F-150 on Saturday, he learned that another neighbor had also discovered someone had been in their outbuildings early that morning and stolen numerous items. That matter remains under investigation.

While the deputy continued his investigation, Martin County and Emmet County, Iowa law enforcement searched for the stolen 2023 F-150 from rural Alpha. It was located a short time later at a rural farm site south of Dunnell near the Martin County/Emmet County line. It had been abandoned there, and a 2012 GMC Sierra pickup with Iowa plates was discovered to have been stolen from that rural residence.

Vanmeveren is also the suspect in the rural Alpha vehicle and property thefts.  He is believed to be armed and dangerous and may be in possession of several stolen guns.  If you know of his whereabouts, you are urged to call 911.
