The Sibley-Ocheyedan boys cross country team placed second and qualified for state Thursday in the Class 1A state qualifier meet in Spencer. The Generals’ Ben Byers also placed second individually, finishing in a time of 16:40.13.

Sectional high school football seedings were announced Thursday, with all first-round games set to be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday. In Section 3AAA, seventh-seeded Worthington will play at No. 2 Waseca. Among the other first-round games Tuesday is top seed Fairmont hosting Albert Lea.
In Section 3A, fifth-seeded Murray County Central will have a rematch at No. 4 Adrian-Ellsworth. Among the other contests is No. 6 Martin County West at No. 3 Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.
Hills-Beaver Creek will have a bye in Section 3 Nine-Player action. Sixth-seeded Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda will travel to No. 3 Mountain Lake Area, and second-seeded Edgerton entertains No. 7 Madelia. In Section 2 Nine-Player football, top-seeded Red Rock Central has a bye.

Minnesota West’s men’s soccer team hosted a Region 13 semifinal match against Anoka-Ramsey Thursday night at Trojan Field and lost 2-1 in double overtime. The Bluejays finish the year with an 8-4-2 record.

In high school volleyball Thursday, Worthington High School defeated New Ulm 3-1 by game scores of 18-25, 25-9, 25-23, 25-20. Addison Gerber, already the Trojans' career leader in set assists, surpassed the 2,000 career mark with 32 in Thursday's match.
Madison Beckmann had 19 kills and six blocks for Trojans, who improved to 13-15 in winning their final game of the regular season. Regan Schafer was the team leader in digs with 12. Gerber and Grace Barber each had ace serves; Barber contributed 11 digs as well and Saige Scheepsta had four blocks,
Worthington will begin sectional play against an opponent to be announced.
