Region digs out from snowstorm; warm and wet weather on the way

Area residents spent at least the first part of the weekend digging themselves out of a snowstorm that closed multiple schools Friday and shut down a host of activities.

The Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant recorded eight inches of snow fell Friday, although several residents around the community recorded higher accumulations. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service reported snowfall totals from communities across the region, including: Hills, 12 inches; Windom, 10.6 inches; Spirit Lake, Iowa, 8 inches; Edgerton, 7 inches; Pipestone, 6.5 inches; and Sibley and Sheldon, Iowa, 6 inches each.

The weather forecast calls for milder than normal temperatures through Wednesday, for which record highs are a possibility. Though highs are expected to reach the low 50s on Wednesday, it will also be breezy with a 70 percent chance of rain.
