Prairie Elementary begins cancer fundraising efforts

Teachers at Prairie Elementary in Worthington began their annual cancer fundraiser on Monday. This year, money will be raised for the Children's Miracle Network in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Prairie Elementary staff will be getting involved in the fundraising by donating toward wearing jeans for the day or the entire week. They will donate $5 per day, or $20 for the week. All of the staff fundraising efforts will go towards Sanford Castle to support food vouchers for family that have kids in the Castle.

Teachers will be talking to their students about four different cancers each day this week.

In the following week, Prairie Elementary will move into the fundraising week for students to join in the "Coins for Cancer" efforts. Each day will have a dress-up day that coordinates with a coin that students are encouraged to bring in. However, students can bring in any type of donation throughout the week.

This year, staff and students will not be gathering as a whole to celebrate the fundraising efforts for the Children's Miracle Network of Sioux Falls. Instead, a reveal video that highlighting the two weeks of fundraising efforts will be sent out.

The top fundraising grade level will receive "Cookies for Cancer" with a special cookie treat.
