Part two of 'Great Gobbler Gallop' is Saturday

Saturday’s the big day for Paycheck and Ruby Begonia as the arch-rival racing turkeys will face off in Leg Two of the Great Gobbler Gallop as part of Cuero’s Turkeyfest celebration.

During Worthington’s King Turkey Day on Sept. 18, Paycheck -– hailed by its race team as “freaky fast” -- posted a time of one minute, 11.58 seconds to top Ruby Begonia, who crossed the finish line in 1 minute, 34.6 seconds. The fastest overall time for the two legs of the annual Gallop is crowned champion.

Paycheck's lead could well be overcome – as it’s so often said about the event, ‘It Ain’t Over ‘Til October.” The overall winner will have bragging rights to the Traveling Turkey Trophy of Tumultuous Triumph and the honor of their town earning the right to be called the Turkey Capital of the World. The second-place turkey earns the Circulating Consolation Cup of Consummate Commiseration.

The race will begin at 10:30 a.m. and proceed uphill on Cuero’s Esplanade Avenue.
