One taken to hospital following three-vehicle collision near Sheldon

One person was taken to a hospital as a result of a three-vehicle crash earlier this week in northwest Iowa.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff's Office, a 2012 Chevrolet Impala operated by Ashtyn Kroeze, 20, of Sioux Center was eastbound on U.S. 18, three miles west of Sheldon, and a 2018 Tesla Model 3 operated by Aitzy Salas, 20, of Rock Rapids, was stopped in traffic. The Impala reportedly moved onto the shoulder to pass vehicles that were ahead and struck the rear of the Tesla while attempting to re-enter the roadway. The impact caused the Impala to cross the center line and collide with a westbound 2019 Lincoln Nautilus operated by Michelle Miedema, 54, of Sheldon.

Salas was transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team. Kroeze and Miedema refused transport.

Kroeze’s vehicle received about $4,000 damage. The Salas vehicle received about $5,000 damage, and Miedema’s vehicle received about $15,000 damage.
