The Worthington Fire Department was dispatched Saturday morning to a fire at the El Azteca restaurant in the 200 block of 10th Street.

WFD Chief Trent DeGroot said Monday that department members were paged at 8:40 a.m. Saturday and that 16 or 17 firefighters responded. He said they encountered a lot of smoke originating from a hallway where there is a storage area.

First Assistant Chief Bryan Spittle and WFD firefighter Wade Roesner both went upstairs to ask apartment residents to leave, DeGroot said. All department trucks were back in service at 11:15 a.m, he added, and no injuries were reported.

A state fire marshal was scheduled to be at the scene Monday afternoon to investigate further, DeGroot said.
