MCC/Fulda runners do well in Tracy; JCC slips past Worthington in VB
Fulda High School's Aiden Appel took first place in the boys competition Thursday at the TMB Panther Invitational at Tracy Country Club.
Appel, a junior for Murray County Central/Fulda, covered the course in a time of 17:23. One of his teammates, Micah Janssen, placed seventh in the race with a personal-best time of 18:14.6. Another teammate, Alexander Betz, was 12th.
For Worthington in the race, Asrat Bonnett was 17th and Evan Meyer 18th. In the team standings, Marshall paced first with 40 points, followed by Windom Area with 61 and Murray County Central/Fulda with 72. The Trojans were sixth with 148.
In the girls race, Laiken Farris of Fulda was the top area finisher as she took sixth for MCC-Fulda. Her teammate, Holland Vogel, placed 11th.
For the Trojans, Emily Dahlquist finished in 17th place and Annika Kinser in 38th. Both MCC-Fulda and Worthington did not register team point totals.

The Worthington Trojans girls soccer team took on Wings United on Thursday night in a battle of winless squads, and the Trojans ended up on the short end 2-0.
The game was scoreless for nearly all of the first half, but Wings United sophomore Yesica Perez Rosario broke the goal-less drought with a minute to go before intermission.
In the second half, the Trojans' Jocelyn Thepmontry was awarded a penalty kick with just over three minutes gone by. Thepmontry's shot, though, sailed high over the Wings United net.
Evelin Montoya later scored with just about six minutes remaining in the game to make it 2-0. Worthington is now 0-5 on the season.

There will be no more Minnesota West football action for the remainder of the season, as the remaining games on the Bluejays' schedule have now been canceled, according to the team's website.
Minnesota West entered the season with an interim head coach in Blake Tucker — who was named to the job in June -- and a roster size he estimated at around 30 players. The Bluejays were then beaten Aug. 22 at home by Ellsworth Community College, 50-6, to open the year, The following week's game against College of DuPage, the five-time-defending NJCAA national champion, was then forfeited by Minnesota West.

Jackson County Central, ranked eighth in the most recent Minnesota Class 2A poll, won a hard-fought match Thursday night at home as it rallied to top Worthington, 3-2. Game scores were 25-18, 22-25,19-25, 25-15, 15-11.
Among the Trojans leaders against the Huskies were: Mara Thier, 11 kills; Ava Schutz, nine kills as well as 20-for-21 serving with an ace; Rylee Olson, 18-for-18 serving with two aces as well as 12 set assists; Kamryn Olson, 15-for-16 serving with two aces along with 25 digs; and Mia McNab, 22 digs as well as 18 set assists.
Worthington is now 6-4 overall.

The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team dominated their match Thursday night in Madelia against Wings United as it won 14-0. WHS improved to 3-1-1 on the year.
Eddy Chavez and Kain Thepmontry each scored three goals in the victory, and Deymar Rojas and Juan Sandoval contributed a pair of goals apiece. Yandel Ibarra, Erick Lopez, Peter Chavez and Roelme Gonzalez had one goal each as many players on the team had the opportunity to get their first varsity-playing experience.
