The Worthington Trojans’ girls volleyball season came to an end Wednesday night as they lost their Section 2AAA quarterfinal matchup at Mankato West 3-0. Game scores were 25-16, 25-20, 25-20.

The sixth-seeded Trojans scored the first two points of game one against the third-seeded Scarlets, but Mankato West proceeded to run off 10 consecutive points from there. WHS was hurt by serving errors in the opening game, as it committed five as a team.

In game two, the Trojans were much more competitive. Following a point that was initially ruled Worthington’s, then Mankato West’s and then back to the Trojans, the score was tied at 13. WHS would go up 16-14, but the Scarlets bounced back to go up 2-0 in the match.

The Trojans were up 9-8 early in game three, but Mankato West surged to gain an 18-10 advantage. Worthington clawed its way back to within two of the lead but could get no closer.

Senior Jayden Spartz led WHS with 13 kills and three blocks. Natya Khamphanh passed for 21 set assists and added four ace serves. Kamryn Olson paced the Trojans in digs with 16 as the team concluded its season with a 14-16 record.
