Los Toros, still unscored upon this season, are back at home Saturday

While the summer sports season is just heating up, the Worthington Community Football Club Toros are already reaching a boiling point.

As they head into the second half of May, the Toros sit comfortably in first place in the United Premier Soccer League's NE-IA-SD Premier Division, as they have an undefeated record of 5 wins, no losses and one draw as well as a league-leading +21 goal differential.

Los Toros' most recent match came this past Sunday as they took on the Sioux Falls Thunder on the road in a battle of unbeaten teams. Worthington completed a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Miguel Moreno and Samuel Murcia Ramirez and a defense that continues to excel.

The story of the season has in fact been a historic defensive streak during which the Toros have now played 540 consecutive minutes of soccer, spanning all of their 2026 six matches, without allowing a single goal. The team's roster features high-level players from Brazil, Portugal, England, Spain and other countries. Worthington also has home-grown talent — among them being Adrian Flores, a local sophomore who became the youngest player in Toros history when he made his debut this past Sunday.

The Worthington squad will be back at home at 7 p.m. Saturday for a match against the Heartland United FC. Individual tickets and Toros 10-packet tickets are on sale for the match, which is the second-to-last one at home this regular season. There will also be a Toros Meet 'N Greet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Worthington Hy-Vee.

The Worthington Trojans softball team played their final game of the regular season on Thursday, and it also was their closest of the year.

The Trojans, in search of their first win of the spring, trailed by just one run heading into the bottom of the sixth inning but ended up dropping a 7-2 decision at Windom. They'll now await sectional seedings, which are expected to be announced today.

The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the first to grab a quick advantage, but that was all they'd get for a while. The game remained 3-0 going into the top of the fifth, when WHS broke through. An error and a Tayler Nickel base hit got a threat started, and a grounder hit by Katy Welch put the Trojans' first run on the board. Macie Mahlberg was the victim of a diving catch in right field, but it still went for a sacrifice fly that made the score 3-2.

In the sixth, the Trojans again threatened. Emma Hietbrink singled for second hit of the game, and Jasmine Noerenberg then doubled to put runners at second and third with one out. Windom pitcher Anja Nielsen, however, struck out the next two batters.

The Eagles then put up four big insurance runs in the bottom of that inning, with one key hit being Addison Evans' two-run single.

In high school baseball Thursday, the Trojans lost at Pipestone Area 8-0.

Worthington got an infield single from Christian Dailey and a walk to Dominic Pavelko in the third, but both were left stranded. The Arrows then got three runs in the bottom of the inning, with all them crossing the plate after two were out.

The lone other hit in the game for WHS was an Ethan Anderson base hit as Austin Musch tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings. Three errors helped the Arrows add two more runs in the fourth, and PA scored three more times in the sixth.
