Lakefield PD announces changes in speed limits through community

The Lakefield Police Department is advising motorists on changes to the posted speed-limit transition areas along South Minnesota 86 in Lakefield.

Drivers who routinely travel Minnesota 86 are encouraged to pay close attention to the new sign locations. The points at which motorists must reduce or may increase their speed have changed, so drivers should follow the posted signs rather than rely on previous driving habits.

Traveling south on Minnesota 86, motorists will travel through the 30-mph zone in Lakefield before the speed limit increases to 40 mph near Fifth Avenue South. The speed limit then increases to 60 mph farther south, just outside the city limits.

Traveling north on Minnesota 86 into Lakefield, motorists will enter a 40-mph zone near city limits, Windmill Motel and Ninth Avenue South, before the speed limit decreases to 30 mph near Fifth Avenue South as they continue into the more developed portion of the community.

The Lakefield Police Department asks motorists to pay close attention during this transition.
