An Adrian man died Saturday afternoon as the result of the rollover of his riding mower.

A press release from Nobles County Sheriff Ryan Kruger received Monday evening stated that the sheriff's office was dispatched at 2:04 p.m. Saturday to the 23000 block of Edwards Avenue for a report of a riding lawn mower that rolled and a person was trapped beneath the mower. Upon arrival, deputies located a zero-turn lawn mower upside down, and a 55-year-old male from Adrian — later identified as David Cook -- was pinned underneath it. The investigation revealed that the male was mowing the ditch and driveway approach when the mower rolled, trapping him underneath it.

"This is a heartbreaking example of how fast a routine task can turn into a tragic accident," Kruger wrote in the press release. "We extend our condolences to the victim's family and friends during this difficult time."

The Nobles County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Adrian Fire and Rescue, Sanford Ambulance, Rushmore Fire and Ambulance and Adrian Police Department.
