Lady Jays win in women's basketball; men lose

Dannyn Peterson scored 20 points to lead three Minnesota West players in double figures and the Lady Jays won on the road Wednesday night, defeating Ridgewater 82-53.


Hunter Garcia added 17 points off the bench and Tia Murray contributed 16 points for Minnesota West, which is now 7-10 overall. Jadyn Lessman led the Jays in the rebounding department with 11, while Jayden Zebe pulled down eight boards. MacKensie Post had a team-best five assists.


Minnesota West, which led by seven points at halftime, used a 25-9 third quarter to pull away. The Lady Jays limited Ridgewater to 29% shooting from the floor in the game.


In the men’s game, Ridgewater ran away from Minnesota West in the second half to finish off a 103-80 victory. The Bluejays were outscored 57-43 over the second half.


Tyvorus Lawton’s 22 points led three Minnesota West players in double-figure scoring. London Campbell added 15 points, and CJ Ligon had 12. Ridgewater shot well from the field, making 56.5% of its shots compared to 40.8% for the Bluejays.


The Minnesota West men’s team is now 3-12 on the season. Both teams host a doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Western Technical College.
