The Minnesota West Lady Jays volleyball team has two first team All-Americans, as sophomore outside hitter Ella Hesse and sophomore setter Lexi Schreurs have both earned the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III honor.
Hesse and Schreurs, who were teammates at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton before both coming to Minnesota West, capped their standout careers with the Lady Jays by leading the squad to last month's national tournament, where they advanced to the finals before being defeated.
Hesse, who was a second team All-American after her freshman year, finished her
career as Minnesota West's all-time leader in kills and digs, while Scheuers took the school's top spot in career set assists.

The Worthington Trojans girls basketball team won its first game of the season Tuesday night as WHS defeated visiting Albert Lea 66-53.
The Tigers, who are 0-4, led the Trojans 18-15 early in the first half, but Worthington soon went on a 10-0 surge to move ahead 33-19. WHS led 38-23 at the half thanks in significant part to Jayden Spartz, who finished the first 18 minutes of play with 19 points.
The Trojans, now 1-3, led 48-28 in the second half, but Albert Lea fought to hang around. The Tigers, who got 20 points from Aliyah Heideman and 19 from Neveah Wacholz, got within 11 points of Worthington, but no closer.
Spartz topped the Trojans with 23 points despite fouling out with 9:10 left in the game. Grace Barber added 15 points for WHS, while Saige Scheepstra had nine and Madison Sieve and Alaina Feit eight apiece.
The Trojans next play Saturday afternoon at Southwest Minnesota Christian.

In high school boys basketball Tuesday, visiting Worthington got off to a slow start and never recovered as the Trojans lost to Windom Area 104-80.
The Eagles, who have passed the century mark in points in both of their games this season, led 51-22 at the half. WHS coach Clint Meyer said his team got off to a really rocky start and that the Eagles took the Trojans out of what they wanted to do offensively. WHS didn't handle adversity very well, Meyer added, and Windom Area was able to turn a lot of Trojan miscues into points.
Jacari Swinea led the way for Worthington in scoring with 26 points, and Peremye Okony hit for 23. Caleb Meyer and Isaiah Schroeder had eight points each. The Trojans are at Southwest Minnesota Christian on Saturday.
Job Ogeka, Carter Rossow and Quintin Tietz each had 18 for the Eagles.
