Lady Jays are no. 1 again; Krahling is MCAC South Athlete of Week

Minnesota West is once again the No. 1-ranked women's basketball in NJCAA Division 3, and a pair of rivals remain at No. 2 and No. 3 in the latest poll released Monday.

The Lady Jays, now 17-5 overall after a pair of victories in the past week, got all eight first-place votes once more to repeat as No. 1. Holding still at No. 2 is Northland Community College, which has a record of 15-4 on the year — with one of those wins against Minnesota West — and staying put at No. 3 is Anoka-Ramsey, which is 17-4. The Golden Rams will look to avenge a January loss to the Lady Jays that knocked them out of the rankings top spot when they play at Minnesota West in a 5:30 p.m. Wednesday game. Minnesota West won the initial meeting, 62-59.

In other Lady Jays news, Minnesota West guard Sadie Krahling was named the MCAC South Division Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week. Playing 64 minutes over two games, Krahling shot 50% from the field and 43% from the three-point arc, scoring 41 points for the week. She had 10 rebounds, eight assists, two steals and four blocks to go along with her 41 points. Krahling also shot 88% from the free-throw line in the Lady Jays' two MCAC South wins.

In men's basketball, Riverland Community College — a MCAC South rival to Minnesota West — moved from No. 3 to No. 2 nationally and is 22-1 overall. Riverland will play the Bluejays Saturday afternoon. Dallas College Richland went from No. 2 to No. 1, and Salem Community College dropped from No. 1 to No. 3.
