JCC settles for fourth place at state 'A' team wrestling

The Jackson County Central wrestling team placed fourth on Thursday at the state Class A Team Wrestling Tournament.


The Huskies won their first match of the day, as they defeated LeSueur-Henderson 37-25. Kayden Eller won by fall in 1:40 for JCC at 114 pounds, Isaac Rodriguez also won by fall in 45 seconds at 121, Kyler Thier picked up a pin in 48 seconds at 127 and Carson Kolander also had a pin in 28 seconds at 172. Also for the Huskies, Mathias Leopold won by major decision at 107, and Cael Entriken, Ryan Haley and Micheal Hansen were victorious by decision at 160, 189 and 285, respectively.


JCC was then downed in decisive fashion by Staples-Motley, 64-0, setting the stage for the Huskies' next match for third place against Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial. Rodriguez won by fall in 3:03 at 127, Jack Mix won by fall in 2:40 at 215, Dallas Gossen got a victory by technical fall at 139, and Eller and Benjamin Dahlin — at 152 — each earned triumphs by decision as JCC was defeated 34-23.


JCC finished in fourth place at the state tourney for the second straight year. The state wrestling tournaments for individuals begins today and continues Saturday.

Worthington freshman Breeta Johnson has been named to the Big South Girls Hockey All-Conference Team as an honorable mention selection.


Five players from section champion Marshall were picked as Peyton DeMuth, Abbey Foley and Brooklyn Mauch are on the team and Kendal Beernaert and Mia Wichmann are honorable mentions. Luverne had four representatives — Payton Behr, Isabella Steensma and honorable mentions Ellie Van Batavia and Tenley Behr. Windom's Reagan Haugan was also chosen for the team.

In the Subsection 3AA girls basketball title game Thursday night, it was Fairmont 78, Jackson County Central 46. In Section 3A South boys basketball play-in games, it was Edgerton 63, Heron Lake-Okabena 44 and Adrian-Ellsworth 60, Red Rock Central 46. Both those winners will play on this weekend's "Super Saturday" at Worthington High School.
