Heron Lake-Okabena levy request is approved easily

Voters in the Heron Lake-Okabena School District have approved a levy request of $2.5 million that will pay for repairs at the district's two buildings.

As the new levy will replace one that's expiring, there will be no new increase in the school district portion of district residents' taxes. The levy request was approved overwhelmingly by a margin of 209-34.

The election asked for $1.6 million in funding to replace a portion of the high school roof. Levy dollars will also go toward replacing filters and mechanical equipment in the swimming pool at the elementary school in Heron Lake, as well as work that includes tuckpointing and cement needs at both the high school and elementary school and flooring at the high school.
