Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda to meet R-T-R in Thursday VB

The fourth-seeded Adrian-Ellsworth Dragons gave top-seeded Russell-Tyler-Ruthton all it could handle in the Section 3A South semifinals Tuesday night, taking the Knights to five games before falling 3-2 in the Worthington High School gym.

The Knights, ranked third in the state in Class A, won the first game 25-21 and then rolled to a 25-11 triumph in game two. Adrian-Ellsworth, though, hung tough, and the Dragons were able to outlast R-T-R 29-27 in game three and then take game four 25-21. The Knights then captured game five 15-10 to advance to a 7 p.m. Thursday match against Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.

The Dragons concluded their 2023 season with a 22-5 record.

In the match between second-seeded Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda and No. 3 Westbrook-Walnut Grove that followed the Knights-Dragons showdown, the Coyotes dropped game one before bouncing back for a 3-2 win. The Coyotes, now 20-9 this fall, got the victory by game scores of 18-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 15-11.
