Generals recover from rough game 3 for five-game VB win over Wolves

The Sibley-Ocheyedan volleyball team looked down and out after host Harris-Lake Park took a two-games-to-one lead Thursday following a 25-10 game three Wolves' triumph.

The Generals, though, bounced back and earned narrow victories in both games four and five to come away with the 3-2 win. Game scores were 17-25, 25-18, 10-25, 26-24, 18-16.

In game one, Harris Lake-Park moved ahead by 11 points and then shook off a late S-O rally that trimmed the advantage to six at one point. In game two, it was the Generals jumping up by five at 8-3 before the Wolves quickly got even. Sibley-Ocheyedan would later secure a comfortable lead and finished off the game on a Hailey Gacke ace.

In game three, H-LP fell behind 6-4 but then tallied 21 of the next 25 points. The Generals soon recovered to win the final two thrilling games, the latter finishing on a point scored by Zida Ochoa.

The Worthington Trojans played at home for the first time this season in volleyball and blanked Fairmont 3-0 by game scores of 25-22, 25-14, 25-23.

Talia Nasers was once again the kills leader with 12 and Ava Schutz added 10. Rylee Olson was 17-for-17 serving with four aces, Schutz 13-for-15 with three aces, Macie Mahlberg 13-for-13 with two aces and Kamryn Olson 12-for-13 with two aces.

Kamryn Olson led the way defensively with 12 digs for WHS, now 5-3 overall. Rylee Olson and Mia McNab combined for 29 assists.

Tri-City United scored one goal in each half and defeated the Worthington Trojans girls' soccer team Thursday night, 2-0.

Tri-City United scored with 15 minutes left before intermission and then again on a penalty kick with about 25 minutes to go. With the loss, WHS is now 0-3 on the season.

In boys soccer, WHS played on the road and was defeated at Tri-City United 2-1. The Trojans are now 1-1-1 on the year after playing on the road for the first time.

It was opening night for Minnesota high school football, and the defending state 9-Man champion Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots began the new season with a 38-6 triumph over host Adrian-Ellsworth. Jackson County Central, the state Class AA champion last year, came away with a victory in its 2026 debut as it won at home against Maple River 43-22.

In high school girls' tennis on Tuesday, Mankato West defeated visiting Worthington 7-0. All of the matches were decided in straight sets. The closest matches came at No. 1 singles, at which the Trojans' Lily Brown was beaten 7-5 , 6-3 , and at No. 2 singles, where Kah Blu Moo was defeated 6-4 , 7-6 (5).
