Dragons stay hot on baseball diamond; Trojan game suspended

Adrian-Ellsworth scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning, snapping a 2-2 tie, and the Dragons went on to beat Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 11-4 on Thursday afternoon. 


Travis Weiss drove in three runs for the Dragons and also picked up the win on the mound, pitching the first five innings and striking out six. Jayden Lautt also finished with three RBIs for A-E, which outhit the Coyotes 11-9.


Brenton Erdman struck out eight Dragon hitters in four innings for Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, who had four different pitchers in the game. While the Coyotes slipped to 2-3 on the spring, Adrian-Ellsworth won for the fourth time in five games and is now 4-3.

The Worthington Trojans and visiting New Ulm Eagles had their baseball game suspended due to rain Thursday night with the score tied at 5-5 after six innings.


Dawson Svalland doubled, singled and drove in a run for the Trojans, and Dominic Pavelko had two singles and an RBI. WHS had eight hits compared to New Ulm's seven. The Trojans also scored runs on a bases-loaded walk to Wyatt Petersen, a wild pitch and an RBI triple from Austin Gruis, as Worthington scored three times in the fifth to knot the score.


Max Ostrem pitched the first five innings for the Trojans, allowing five hits and three earned runs while walking two and striking out five. Svalland tosssed the sixth and got a big boost when Gruis gunned down an Eagle baserunner attempting to steal third.

The Minnesota West baseball team split a doubleheader Wednesday at Western Technical College, winning the first game 7-4 and then dropping the second contest 8-5. The games were makeups from a rainout at Western Tech, located in LaCrosse, Wis., on Sunday.


In the opener, the Bluejays tallied six runs in the second inning after scoring once in the first. After losing two 1-0 matchups at home to Western Tech on Saturday and collecting just five total hits in the process, Minnesota West picked up nine hits in all in game one. Eliecer Gonzalez connected for a single and double, Johnny Ramsey homered and drove in three runs and Samuel Taveras doubled for the Bluejays. Five others contributed a single each.


Sam Palfini tossed a complete game on the mound for the Jays, scattering eight hits and walking two to go along with six strikeouts.


Game two saw Western Tech snap a 3-3 tie with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Minnesota West had seven total hits in the nightcap, with Haruta Endo and Gonzalez picking up two each. Endo also drove in a pair of runs.


Ales Zhao pitched the first 4 1/3 innings for Minnesota West, allowing four hits, four walks and seven runs while fanning 10. Alex Paulzine finished for the Jays, who are back in action today when they play a doubleheader at Riverland. Those two teams meet again in a twinbill Saturday in Worthington.
