Council sets date for reconstruction project hearings

The Worthington City Council hosted its annual meeting Monday night, approving several business items that typically come up for action at the start of each year.  Among those, councilman Chad Cummings was elected as mayor pro tem.

 

Among other items on agenda were council’s approval of a pair of resolutions pertaining to feasibility reports on the Church Avenue Reconstruction Improvement Project and the Second Avenue Reconstruction Improvement Project. Planned Church Avenue work from Clary Street to Oxford Street will include regrading, base reconstruction, edge drain installation and bituminous resurfacing. Planned Second Avenue work from 12th Street to 13th Street includes regrading, base reconstruction, edge drain installation, curb and gutter, sidewalks, concrete boulevards and concrete resurfacing. Hearings on each of the reconstruction projects are scheduled for Jan. 22.

 

In another matter, the council approved a change order from Ideal Landscaping, the contractor on the Sunset Parking Lot project, for $8,679. The change order brings the total contract price to $482,377.05.

 

Council members also approved the receipt of $5,000 in League of Minnesota Cities Grant Navigator funding to support the preparation of a Work Force Housing Grant being prepared by Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership. They also approved a $2,180 grant for extrication equipment by the Worthington Fire Department from Nobles Cooperative Electric.
