Bluejays settle for doubleheader split in La Crosse

Playing their second doubleheader against Western Technical College, the Minnesota West baseball team earned a split this time around, winning the opening game 13-1 and losing the nightcap 12-2 in La Crosse, Wis.
The Bluejays, who earned a sweep on Monday in Sioux Falls, are now 13-12 on the season.
In the first game, Minnesota West got on the board first when Takuto Usami cracked a grand-slam homer in the fourth. The Bluejays added another run in the fifth for a 5-0 lead and then tacked on eight more runs in the seventh.
Ales Zhao stayed hot at the plate for Minnesota West as he connected for a single, double and home run while scoring twice and driving in four. Go Tanabe had three more hits in the victory.
Worthington High grad Tucker Brandner tossed a complete game on the mound, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out 10. The only run he surrendered was unearned.
In game two, Western Tech got seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to win via the 10-run rule. The Bluejays had just four hits, with two of them coming from Max Biehl.
Minnesota West plays two at Riverland on Saturday, then hosts them in a doubleheader Sunday.

All of Worthington High's sporting activities scheduled for Tuesday were postponed due to the cold weather. The Trojan baseball game at Marshall will now be played May 4, and the WHS softball game will now be part of a doubleheader at Marshall on April 28. The boys and girls golf home meet against Luverne will now be on Thursday, and the boys tennis match versus Luverne will be on April 24.
