Bluejay baseball drops four games in tough weekend against Century

It was a tough weekend for the Minnesota West baseball team Saturday and Sunday against Century College, as the Bluejays wound up going 0-4.

Minnesota West played at Century on Saturday, and scores in that doubleheader were 12-0 in five innings and 4-1. The Bluejays offense, which came into Saturday having scored 37 runs in their previous four games — all victories — was stymied to the tune of no runs on just two hits in the first matchup and one run on four hits in the second.

Century scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning in Saturday's first game, during which Minnesota West committed a total of six errors. In game two, the Blue Jays tallied their lone run in the game in the final inning. The lone extra-base hit on Saturday was a triple by Takuto Usami.

On Sunday, Century swept Minnesota West in Worthington, 13-3 in five innings and 3-1. Century grabbed a 6-0 first inning edge in the opener. The Bluejays did have a 1-0 advantage in the second inning of game two on a Johnny Ramsey homer, but their guests rallied.

Tucker Brandner, the MCAC South Division pitcher of the week last week, was a bright spot for Minnesota West in Sunday's second game, scattering five hits and striking out nine in a complete-game effort.

The Bluejays, now 9-14, host the Dakota State JV in a doubleheader Wednesday.
