The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team improved to 3-0 on the season Tuesday night with a 4-0 win at St. Peter.
The Trojans got off to a slow start, as WHS and St. Peter played a scoreless tie in the first half. Trojans coach Juan Flores said the Saints are a tall team height-wise and the squads were playing a lot of balls in the air when Worthington’s strength is playing on the ground.
In the second half, the Trojans broke through when Byron Echeverria got WHS on the board. Charles Saydee made it 2-0, Santos Orellana made it 3-0 and another Echeverria goal completed the scoring. Another highlight of the match was a big save from Trojan goalie Osmin Pineda when the game was scoreless in the first half.
WHS is ranked seventh in the state Class AA poll. The Trojans host Marshall Thursday night,

In girls soccer, Worthington dropped a 6-0 decision to St. Peter at home.
The Trojans hung with the undefeated and unscored-upon Saints for the first 10 minutes of the match before St. Peter got its first goal. The Saints scored for the second time when a shot was mistakenly deflected off a Trojans player and into the net. St. Peter then scored three goals in less than three minutes later in the half open up a safe cushion.
With the loss, the Trojans are now 0-2-1 on the year.

In girls tennis, Worthington played host to River Valley Co-Op on Tuesday and was defeated 4-3.
Getting wins for the Trojans were No. 3 singles player Brooke Nordseth, who won a 7-6, 7-6 nail-biter, and No. 4 singles player Taya Oberloh, who won 6-0, 6-1. The other Worthington victory came from the No. 3 doubles duo of Chloe Martinez and Taylor Michelson, which posted a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.
