A-E outlasts MACCRAY for 3-2 volleyball win in Ellsworth
The Adrian-Ellsworth volleyball team won the first two games of their match against MACCRAY, then lost the next two before regrouping and holding off the Wolverines on Tuesday night in Ellsworth. Game scores were 25-17, 25-21, 20-25, 13-25, 15-11.
The Dragons started strongly, as they built a 20-9 Game 1 advantage before ultimately finishing things off. The Dragons then took Game 2, but MACCRAY followed by storming out to a 13-3 lead in the next game. A-E kept the Wolverines at 24 for four consecutive points, but it wasn't enough.
Game 4 was a display of domination by MACCRAY, which set the stage for a Game 5 in which the Dragons exploded to an 11-1 start. The Wolverines fought back, though, and got to within two at 12-10 before Adrian-Ellsworth bounced back and ultimately concluded the match on a Kaedyn Bullerman ace serve.
Senior Kamyrn Lehnhoff led the Dragons with 15 kills on the night while junior Andrina Tiesler added 10. Lehnhoff also led the defensive effort with 23 digs as A-E improved to 1-1 on the season.
MACCRAY senior libero Mia Post recorded her 1,000th career dig in Tuesday and also contributed multiple ace serves. She has already committed to play next fall at Division II University of Sioux Falls.

The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team was sharp Tuesday night both offensively and defensively as they dominated visiting St. Peter 7-0 to improve to 1-0-1 on the season.
Kain Thepmontry got WHS on the board at the 25-minute mark of the first half, and Eiby Ramos scored with 15 minutes left before the break for a 2-0 lead. It became 3-0 when Erick Lopez got a goal with about four minutes remaining before the break.
Thepmontry added a second goal in the second half for the Trojans, and Cesar Munoz and Roelme Gonzalez Arreaga also scored. WHS also benefitted from an own-goal.

In high school volleyball Tuesday, the Trojans traveled to Tri-City United and were blanked 3-0. Game scores were 25-19, 25-17, 25-19.
Ava Schutz and Talia Nasers had six kills each to top Worthington in that department. Kamryn Olson paced the team in digs with 18. Mia McNab, Macie Mahlberg and Rylee Olson were all error-free on serves.
The Trojans, now 4-3, play their home opener Thursday against Fairmont.

Worthington High School's cross country team competed in its first meet of the season Monday in Marshall.
Among the Trojan boys, senior Asrat Bonnett was eighth among individuals and freshman Evan Meyer in 12th with a personal-record time. Braddock Marquardt was 19th, and Ben Potts placed 26th.
Worthington's girls' team had Emily Ahlquist lead the way by ending in 25th place. Freshman Annika Kinser had a personal best in placing 27th. Carina Lopez was 28th and Annabelle Harwood 30th.
The Trojans placed fifth in the boys' meet and fourth in the girls'. Marshall won the boys' team competition and St. Peter the girls'.
