The Federated Rural Electric Trust, Jackson, recognized local organizations receiving $27,835 through Operation Round Up.
These donations occur due to monthly contributions by participating Federated members. A total of 28 groups received money in this 59th round of funding:
Organizations receiving funding were: JCC High School Science Class, $240 for the purchase of eight digital scales for chemistry & earth science classes; Martin County Master Gardeners Class, $300 for supplies for planning, planting and preserving classes; Heron Lake-Okabena FFA Chapter, $300 to buy a new color printer for color copies for contests and applications; JCC High School Science Class, $325 for the purchase of 30 scientific calculators for one classroom; Martin County West Sherburn Elementary, $380 for laminating rolls for a new math curriculum; Fairmont Hot Meals on Wheels, $437 for post office box rent, stamps and envelopes for billing clients; Jackson County Central Community Education, $500 for reuseable jerseys for basketball youth; Jackson County Central Post Prom, $500 toward laser tag and ax throwing for post pro; Heron Lake-Okabena Ag Department, $525 for aquaponics curriculum, tank, light bar and pump; Heritage Acres, Fairmont, $600 toward a blacksmith for Threshing Day and Harvest Festival; JCC Elementary, $600 to buy 368 toothbrushes and mini toothpastes for health education; Rhythm of the River, Jackson, $675 for safety cones, vests, walkie talkies and flashlights for safer parking; Minnesota West Scholarship, Jackson, $700 for a Jackson or Martin County line worker or electrician student; JCC Robotics Class, $879 to buy a VEX robotics kit and controller for new class; Heron Lakle-Okabena Elementary School Library, $900 to buy decodable reader books for phonics learning; Jackson County Historical Society, Lakefield, $900 to update exhibit space with new display graphics; Jackson County Library System, $975 for Zoo Man summer reading at three county libraries; Martin County West Community Education & Recreation, $1,000 for scholarships for eligible students to participate in community ed; MCW Early Childhood Family Education, $1,000 to celebrate 50 years of ECFE with bouncy house and craft supplies; Heron Lake-Okabena Positive Behavior Interventions, $1,000 to reward good behavior with an end-of-the-school year event; Des Moines Valley Health & Human Services., Jackson and Cottonwood counties, $1,000 for emergency energy-assistance for Federated members; SWWC Foundation for Innovation in Education, Marshall, $1,000 for registration fees for students in knowledge bowl and spelling bee; JCC Supplies for Kids, $1,500 to buy school supplies and hygiene items for kids PreK-8th grade; Jackson Food Shelf, $1,600 for a new laptop and software for tracking food shelf statistics; Jackson Ag Department, $1,999 buy a new MIG welder replacing older equipment; Rebuilding Together Minnesota, $2,000 to help three-to-four low-income homes with repairs in Jackson County; Healing Hearts Recovery, Sherburn, $3,000 for transportation, clothing and rent gap for sober recovery home; and Dunnell Lake Fremont Fire Department, $3,000 for new nozzles replacing outdated/broken ones for fire trucks.
The Trust Board received 29 applications totaling $47,360 in this 59th round of funding. The Trust Board will meet again in the fall to determine the next round of funding. The deadline for submitting applications is Sept. 27.
About 74 percent of Federated Rural Electric members participate in Operation Round Up. They allow their electric bills to be rounded up to the nearest dollar. Since the first round of funding in 1995, nearly $937,000 has been awarded to local organizations and as high school scholarships.
