Minnesota Humanities Center with Danger Boat Productions announces Worthington as one of 10 locations on the 2026 Sketches of Minnesota civic improv comedy tour, which uses comedy and dialogue to build bridges and connection amongst neighbors.
The Worthington event will take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 at Pioneer Village in Worthington. The evening will begin with a community hour from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by dinner from 6 to 7:15 p.m., the improv show from 7:15 to 8 p.m., and a talkback from 8 to 8:30 p.m. The Worthington event is being hosted in partnership with FORWARD Worthington.
The event is free, but registration is required.
“We are glad to be partnering with Danger Boat Productions for our third season of Sketches of Minnesota,” said MHC CEO Kevin Lindsey. “When neighbors laugh and share a meal together, barriers come down and conversations flow. It’s great to see people connect with their community over comedy year after year, and we hope you choose to join us for a Sketches performance this season.”
The other host communities include Edge of the Wilderness (Bigfork), Emily, Freeborn County, Iron Range (Hibbing and Chisholm), Luverne, Marshall, Montevideo, Red Wing, and Rochester.)
“We’re excited to bring something to Worthington that is not only going to be a lot of fun, but also gives people a chance to talk about our community in a different way,” said FORWARD Worthington's Kris Hohensee in a press release. “We want to hear what people really think about Worthington — the good, the challenges, and everything in between — while bringing people together to get to know one another and learn how we can work better together. And then we get to sit back and watch an improv troupe turn those conversations into comedy. I think it’s going to be a pretty unique night.”
Each event will open with a meal and facilitated conversation, asking audience members to share what makes their town great, what they think people get wrong about it, what local divisions concern them, and what future they imagine. An improv troupe from Danger Boat Productions will listen in on the conversations, then take everything they heard from residents and bring it to life on stage through entirely unscripted improv comedy theater.
“People love their communities and want to connect with their neighbors. That’s what we’ve seen in every town and city on the Sketches tours the last two years,” said Tane Danger, co-founder of Danger Boat. “If we do our job right, people hear each other and laugh together. They find things in common and have a great time doing it. It’s the best kind of community building.”
At the conclusion of the tour, Danger Boat’s sketch writer will weave the best parts of each performance into a final soon-to-be-announced show. This grand finale will offer a whirlwind tour of Minnesota through sketch comedy, song, and story. The aim of Sketches of Minnesota is to foster understanding within and across communities, celebrate the state’s diversity, and showcase what residents cherish most about their corner of Minnesota.
