New information from the federal census has been released.
The city of Worthington’s population is 13,947, which represents an increase of nearly 1,200 people from the 2010 census total of 12,764. The next largest city in the six-county region of extreme southwest Minnesota is Luverne, with a 2020 census count of 4,946. That number is up 4 percent from the 2010 figure.
The third largest city in the area is Windom, which has a 2020 population total of 4,798. Other 2020 population totals for communities around southwest Minnesota are Jackson, 3,323; Mountain Lake, 1,999; Lakefield, 1,735; and Fulda, 1,371.
