Worthington now more than eight inches behind rainfall average for the year

High temperatures in Worthington were once again warmer than average last month while weather conditions remained much drier than average as well, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The average high temperature in Worthington in September was 77.5 degrees, or 4.6 degrees warmer than the average September high of 72.9. The warmest high of the month, 95 degrees, was recorded on Sept. 3, and there were highs of 94 on Sept. 5 and 93 on Sept. 4. The coolest high of the month was 68 on the 24th.

The average low in Worthington in September was 52.6 degrees, or 3.5 degrees warmer than the average 49.1. The lowest temperature reading came on Sept. 7 at 41 degrees. A low of 43 followed on the 8th.


Worthington received a total of .79 inches of precipitation during the month of September, which is 2.42 inches less than the 3.21 inches that's typical. Sept. 12 saw the most precipitation of any day in the month at .21 inches. There was .17 inches measured on Sept. 24. Nine months into 2023, there has been 17.83 inches of precipitation; the normal total at this juncture of the year is 25.9 inches. That means we're slightly more than eight inches below average in precipitation for the calendar year.

As for temperatures, the average high so far this year has been 58.8; the average low 38.0. By comparison, the average high for a typical first nine months of the year is also 58.4 and the typical low is 37.7.
