Worthington man dies in construction mishap in Spirit Lake

A Worthington man died Tuesday in Spirit Lake as the result of a crash involving construction equipment.

According to the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement and Spirit Lake First Responders were dispatched at approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday to the 3300 block of Erie Avenue in Spirit Lake for a report of a man pinned under some construction equipment. The man was freed from the equipment shortly before law enforcement and EMS personnel arrived.

Authorities say Balduino Florencio Velasquez, 23, of Worthington was operating a Lull when it started to tip over. Florencio Velasquez exited the Lull, and it landed on top of him, pinning him to the ground.

Florencio Velasquez was transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, where he died of his injuries. The Spirit Lake Police Department also assisted on the scene.
