With filing deadline near, no new candidates for Nobles County offices

With a deadline of Tuesday approaching, no new candidates for elected positions in Nobles County have filed to run for office over the course of this past week as of Friday morning.


Two incumbent Nobles County commissioners, as well as the current county sheriff and county attorney, have already filed for re-election in Nobles County. District 2 Commissioner Gene Metz, District 5 Commissioner Chris Dybevick, County Sheriff Ryan Kruger and County Attorney Braden Hoefert are all seeking new terms. No challengers for the any of these individuals have filed for candidacy; the filing period began May 19.


There are two elected posts for which no one had filed as of Friday morning --- Soil and Water Supervisor District 4 and Soil and Water Supervisor District 5.


In Jackson County, meanwhile, there will be at least one race for public office as two individuals have filed to run for county sheriff to replace the retiring Shawn Haken. The candidates in that race are Mike DeJong and Adam Koch.


Three incumbent Jackson County commissioners have filed for re-election and did not face challengers as of Friday. They include Don Wachal in District 2, Roger Pohlman in District 3 and Phil Nasby in District 4.


Jackson County Attorney Kristi Meyeraan has also filed for re-election. Other candidates include Dan Riley, Soil and Water Supervisor District 2, and Paul Nelson, Soil and Water Supervisor District 4.
