Windom mayor Dominic Jones issued a flooding update Wednesday night to residents of that community.

Jones noted that the Des Moines River was slowly receding, but strongly encouraged people to keep their sandbags in place as any rain can lead to an increase in water levels. Rain was in the forecast Thursday and Friday.

Jones noted that the city is at work on a temporary housing and storage plan, with details expected in the next few days. He added that a 4,500-gallon-per-minute pump is pumping water from Warren Pond to Warren Lake; authorization was given by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

City officials met with the Army Corps of Engineers on Wednesday and looked at temporary levees built near Island Park while also discussing a permanent project. The Des Moines River appeared to crest at 25.01 feet early Wednesday.
