The Windom Pirates, after getting blanked by Milroy 8-0 on Wednesday, in game one of their best-of-three Region 13C amateur baseball playoff series, topped the Irish 3-2 on Saturday to stay alive and then won on the road in a 20-3 stomping on Sunday afternoon.

The three other Region 13C amateur baseball playoffs series that began last Wednesday night ended in two-game sweeps.

Top-seeded Luverne traveled to eighth-seeded Lakefield on Friday night and came away with a 5-3 triumph over the Horned Frogs. The Redbirds, who now have a 14-2 record on the season, took Game One of the series 10-0 in eight innings.

In the series between No. 3 Fairmont and No. 6 Hadley, the Martins crushed the sixth-seeded Buttermakers 20-3 on Saturday afternoon in the second contest of their best-of-three playoff. Fairmont had rallied for an 11-8 home win this past Wednesday evening.

Elsewhere, second-seeded Jackson knocked seventh-sided Pipestone out of the Region 13C playoffs on Friday night. The Bulls, now 14-3, won the road against the A’s by a score of 12-5. That win came two days after Jackson edged Pipestone 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Luverne will host Windom at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night in game one of another best-of-three series. Jackson, meanwhile, will host Fairmont in a game one at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. These four teams will each draft one pitcher from any of the seven eliminated Region 13C teams for this next postseason round.

Winners in this week’s two series will automatically qualify for the state tournament. The losers, meanwhile, will play another series to determine who gets the third and final state tournament spot.
