Ten of 12 Worthington Trojans competing in this past Saturday’s Marshall Mini Spectacular Speech Meet advanced to a final round.
Three different finals took place: varsity finals, which comprised of the top six competitors in each category; next-In finals, in which the next six places in each category competed; and novice finals, for which those competitors in 7-9 grades or first-year speakers were eligible.
WHS junior Alondra Leon Flores took second place in the original oratory varsity finals. Several Trojans competed in next-In finals, with Jay Chavez fifth in extemporaneous reading, Aurora Ramos Ramos, fourth in great speeches and Thiri Akari sixth in discussion.
In the Novice Finals, it was: Chloe Erlandson, first in drama; Gerelyn Menijvar, first in poetry, Mikeayla Engidaw, second in prose; Gisel Martinez, third in prose; Braddock Marquardt, fourth in humorous; and Rut Ramos Ramos, fifth in poetry.
The team’s next meet will be this Saturday in Redwood Falls.
