The Glee Handbell Choir from Meiji Gakuin High School in Tokyo, Japan, will present a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at American Reformed Church, 1720 N. Burlington Ave., Worthington. Admission is by free-will donation, and there will be refreshments available afterward.
Lisa Schutte of Worthington, who is coordinating the local concert, explained that Meiji Gakuin is a Christian high school whose students typically travels to the U.S. every other year. The choir last performed in Worthington in 2019, she said.
The handbell choir includes 12 members and is directed by Kazuyoshi Inagaki. The performance is expected to include medleys of songs from “Les Miserables” and “The Lion King” as well as other material.
Schutte added that the handbell choir – which is in the midst of traveling for five weeks -- will arrive in Worthington on Thursday. They’ll be hosted in private homes Thursday night, then enjoy local activities such as boating and fishing on Friday before departing on Saturday for Omaha.
