The Worthington Trojans softball season came to an end Wednesday at the Section 2AAA Tournament at Caswell Park in North Mankato.

The Trojans, competing as the No. 7 seed, dropped their initial game of the day 4-2 to fourth-seeded Marshall. Then, taking on fifth-seeded St. Peter in a loser-out contest, WHS was defeated by the Saints 8-2.

The score was deadlocked until the bottom of the fifth, when Beek delivered Naya Grahn with a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a one-run edge.

Marshall picked up an unearned run in the sixth, and Morgan Bjella came on to pitch in relief of Beek in the seventh and struck out the side to preserve the Tigers’ win. Ponto surrendered just five hits for WHS in taking the pitching loss.

Against St. Peter, the Trojans went up 1-0 in the first when Ponto reached on a leadoff infield single and scored on a McNab RBI base hit. St. Peter responded with two in the first and two more in the second, with one run coming on a solo homer from Lillian Filand.

The score would remain 4-1 until the fifth, when Filand delivered a two-run single. The Saints added a pair more in the sixth; the Trojans got their second run in the seventh on a bloop double by McNab that scored Breeta Johnson, who went 2-for-2 in the game.
