WHS boys soccer wins big on Senior Night

On Senior Night at Trojan Field, the Worthington High boys soccer team broke out to a 4-0 halftime advantage and went on to top Waseca 8-0.


Jonathan Banegas scored three times in the match for Worthington. Matthias Noble had his first goal of the season for the Trojans, as did Lance Gordon. Also finding the opponent’s net were Carlos Castillo, Christian Martinez and Jose Chavez as Worthington improved to 9-1 in conference play and 11-2 overall. The Trojans play at noon Saturday against Mankato East.

The Worthington Trojans were defeated 3-1 by St. Peter in girls volleyball action Thursday night. Game scores were 20-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-17.


It was Janessa Hammann leading WHS with 14 kills and Madison Beckmann adding 12 kills and four blocks. Jayden Spartz contributed 10 kills and 16 digs. Regan Schaefer and Grace Barber had 17 digs apiece while Addison Gerber had 38 set assists, two blocks and two ace serves. The Trojans are 8-11.

In girls tennis Thursday, Jordan blanked Worthington 7-0. The closest match of the day came at No. 4 singles, where the Trojans’ Eleanor Teerink was defeated by Olivia VanderSyde 4-6, 6-1, 10-5. All of the other matches were decided in straight sets.
