Weber cites costs associated with housing industry as a key issue

After a little more than a week off for Easter break, the Minnesota Legislature will return to work Tuesday, and District 21 Sen. Bill Weber is looking ahead.

Weber said in a new release this past week that lawmakers can soon expect to get a clearer idea of what bills will be prioritized when they begin work in conference committees.

"Affordability, spikes in property taxes, reckless spending and fraud prevention continue to be among issues," the Luverne Republican said. "A key factor in the rise of living is the cost associated with the housing industry, where there are often duplicate fees and unnecessary taxes that drive up the cost of new home construction."

Weber added that he recently introduced a bipartisan bill — SF-4749 — that would establish a task force to bring together relevant data that could help inform legislative proposals in the near future. The task force would be made up of housing industry leaders, legislators, local government organization representatives and agency people.
