Weather turns severe Sunday in Worthington, surrounding area

A total of nine-tenths of an inch of rain was recorded at 7 a.m. Monday morning at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant following Sunday night's severe weather.

Tornado sirens sounded in Worthington at approximately 5:35 p.m. as the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning until what at that time was 6:15 p.m. The NWS later reported a tornado near Lismore in Nobles County shortly before 6 p.m. Nobles County Sheriff Ryan Kruger said Monday morning that he was not aware of any damage or injuries that resulted from Sunday's weather. Worthington Public Works Director Todd Wietzema reported Sunday evening that the city had some street flooding and was advising motorists to use alternate routes and not drive through standing water.

While the tornado warning for Nobles County was allowed to expire earlier, the warning persisted in portions of Cottonwood and Jackson counties until 8 p.m.  Portions of northwest Iowa, including Osceola County, were under weather warnings as well.
