Walk to School Day scheduled for Oct. 7 across Minnesota

More than 110 Minnesota schools and thousands of students are expected to participate in the 31st annual Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 7, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

This Minnesota Safe Routes to School-sponsored event encourages students and parents to try out new, healthy habits that increase physical activity. Walking to school can also build stronger connections between families, schools and communities. Minnesota law requires that all public-school students must learn how to walk and bike safely at the start of the school year.

Minnesota Safe Routes to School is a MnDOT program that provides resources and grants to advance Safe Routes to School programs through planning, projects and support.
