United Way of Nobles County taking new approach to fundraising

United Way of Nobles County is developing a new communitybased fundraising initiative designed to give residents more choice in supporting local nonprofit

organizations, according to a FORWARD Worthington press release.

The organization’s volunteer-based board of directors has decided to pursue a large-scale direct mail campaign reaching households throughout Nobles County. The mailing will feature participating nonprofit organizations, allowing residents to choose which local causes they wish to support with their charitable donations.

Like many organizations, United Way of Nobles County has experienced changes in volunteer-driven fundraising since the COVID-19 pandemic, along with shifts in contributions from some larger donors. These challenges have made it more difficult to maintain the level of funding distributed to local organizations in previous years.

Despite these changes, United Way remains committed to supporting local charities and the residents they serve. The organization has explored new fundraising events and has also benefited from a generous bequest from a local Worthington community champion. The funds were invested through the Southwest Initiative Foundation, with investment returns helping

support charitable giving efforts.

“Our approach may be changing, but our commitment to Nobles County and its residents remains the same,” said the United Way of Nobles County Board of Directors in the press release. “We want to find sustainable ways to support our community while giving residents the opportunity to decide which local organizations and causes matter most to them."

Under the proposed initiative, United Way will invite past funding recipients and other eligible nonprofit organizations to participate. Organizations will need to demonstrate their nonprofit status, provide information about their mission, and establish a reputable history of service. Each participating organization will receive a designated listing on the mailer, allowing donors to direct their contributions to the causes they choose. Donations will be distributed to designated organizations following the campaign, according to its procedures.

The initiative aims to increase awareness of local nonprofits, provide residents with more choices in charitable giving, and create another opportunity for organizations to connect with potential donors.

United Way of Nobles County welcomes the opportunity to work with both longtime partners and new nonprofit participants as plans develop. Additional information about eligibility, participation requirements, and campaign details will be shared as they become available.

The organization thanks its donors, volunteers, nonprofit partners and community members for their past support and looks forward to continuing its mission of helping Nobles County residents

and the organizations that serve them
