Two injured in two-vehicle crash in Garvin

A Balaton teen and Louisiana man were injured after their vehicles collided at the intersection of U.S. 59 and U.S. 14.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2024 Freightliner semi operated by Arthur Watts III, 49, of Thibodaux, La., was pulling a trailer and southbound on U.S. 59 and a 2012 Chevy Malibu operated by Trevor Smith, 17, of Balaton, was westbound on U.S. 14 when the vehicles collided in the intersection. The crash took place at approximately 3:43 p.m. Monday.

Smith was airlifted to Sanford Sioux Falls with life-threatening injuries. Watts was taken to the Tracy hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, Garvin Rescue, Tracy Ambulance, and North Memorial Air Care assisted at the scene.
