Two Worthington residents were flown to a Sioux Falls hospital after a crash earlier this week on Iowa 60.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, a 2007 Peterbilt semi-tractor operated by Shawn Munns, 66, of Hawarden that was pulling a tank trailer was southbound on Iowa 60 and a 1999 Toyota Corolla operated by a 17-year-old Worthington male was eastbound on 400th Street. The report indicates that the Corolla driver failed to stop for the stop sign at Iowa 60 and entered the intersection, where the vehicles collided. The crash took place shortly after 4 p.m. Monday.
The 17-year-old Worthington male was taken to Orange City Area Health and later flown to Sanford Sioux Falls for further medical attention. A passenger in the Corolla, Ernesto Martin, 20, of Worthington, was transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center and was also later flown to Sanford Sioux Falls for further medical treatment. The driver of the Peterbilt was unhurt.
While damage to the Corolla was estimated at $1,500, damage to the Peterbilt and trailer was estimated at $100,000.
