Two-boat collision on West Lake Okoboji results in one death

One person died and multiple people were injured Sunday as a result of a two-boat collision on West Lake Okoboji.

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the collision took place off Pillsbury Point. The individual who died and all five of the people injured were on the same boat. Three of those hurt had serious injuries and were taken to hospitals in Spirit Lake and Spencer. Authorities say all were wearing personal flotation devices.

No names are other details about the collision had been immediately released. The Iowa DNR said crews responded to the scene a little before 1 p.m. Sunday, and added that alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor.

Assisting at the scene were Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire and Rescue, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, police departments from Arnolds Park, Milford and Okoboji and ambulances from Lakes Regional Healthcare and Terril.

The DNR says the incident is still under investigation.
